Senior Adult Ministries – JOY Fellowship (Just Older Youth)
Mission Statement:
To encourage those in our church fellowship who are 50 and over to participate in activities that foster spiritual growth and health, age-level educational pursuits, evangelistic outreach, and wholesome fellowship events. To promote strong focal points of need so that people may be involved in an area of interest to them.
Senior’s Facts:
Senior adults make up the fastest growing segment of our society; forty percent of Americans are now 50 years or more! Their numbers are growing three times faster than the national population rate. At the turn of the last century, life expectancy was 37 years and there were only three million people age 65 age and older. Today, life expectancy has more than doubled to over 75 years and there are more than 35 million who are age 65 and older. As a result, Yucaipa First Assembly is working to be more aware of the need to provide informed, intentional and innovative ministries and ministry opportunities to those who are celebrating the second half of life.
Activities:
Joy Fellowship sponsors several activities throughout the year: Concerts, Homecoming video events with lunch, and various trips planned. They join in with the San Bernardino Section to have a special annual luncheon at Benedict Castle in Riverside in the late winter. Also, they join the SoCal District at a campmeeting at Pinecrest Conference Center in Twin Peaks in the San Bernardino Mountains each September.
Heritage Hero Award:
The Heritage Hero Award Recipient for 2011 of Yucaipa First Assembly’s JOY Fellowship is Lois Wilson. It was presented to her at the 2nd Half Ministry Luncheon at Benedict Castle on February 28, 2011 for being in ministry in the local church.
It is easy to feel like your days of contributing something great are over, but we believe differently. Come join us.
